Topaz is November’s traditional birthstone. I have been drooling all over my stash of Imperial topaz (named so because ownership was restricted to the Russian czars). Here are a few things hot off my bench – don’t worry, they’ve been sanitized!

In this system all the crystals have three axes which are mutually perpendicular and are all of different lengths.
Though topaz is moderately hard, it has one perfect cleavage, which means it can be easily split. Is this fascinating or what?
